How to Write Better Product Descriptions With AI
SmartTools Hub · 2 min read
A simple prompt framework for clear, helpful descriptions that sound like you.
What a good description does
A strong product description answers three questions quickly: what is it, who is it for, and why should the reader care. AI can help you draft this fast if you give it clear details.
A simple prompt to try
"Write a 100-word product description for [product]. The ideal customer is [who]. Key features: [list]. Main benefit: [benefit]. Tone: friendly and clear. Avoid exaggerated claims."
Edit like a shop owner
Remove vague phrases such as "high quality" unless you explain why. Add details only you know: materials, sizing, how it's made, or how customers use it.
Keep it consistent
Save your best prompt and reuse it for every product so your shop has a consistent voice. Read each description out loud before publishing.
Give the tool facts, not permission to guess
For a handmade cotton tote, provide the actual dimensions, material, care instructions, and intended use. A useful instruction is: “Use only the details listed here. Do not invent durability claims, certifications, or customer reviews.” Replace every bracket with verified information before running the prompt.
Before you publish
- Check measurements, materials, and availability against your product record.
- Remove unsupported claims and repetitive adjectives.
- Make the main benefit easy to find.
- Read the final description on a phone.
